Letter: “Dear Jóna Rúna, We are two friends with a great interest in everything concerning psychic phenomena. The reason for us writing to you is that we have heard that you are psychic and clairvoyant as well. We have been living at a boarding school for two years now and it´s much to our liking. We both come from the country and prefer not to live anywhere else. Here in school the subjects of life and death are often discussed. Most people here are interested in the paranormal and we boys have done a lot of experiments with telepathy and similar things. The main reason we are writing to you now is that last winter a few of us guys started fooling around with a Ouija board and at the beginning it was a lot of fun. It all went well and we think that we actually managed to contact some of our loved-ones that are long since dead. Then, little by little, all kinds of different spirits started revealing themselves with various results. Finally, a very negative and brutally crude spirit started to relate to us. We were quite disturbed by this but we continued using the Ouija board anyway. The situation has now come to us and others in school being scared witless because when we play this game, a strange fright overtakes us and afterwards we don´t even dare to walk around by ourselves. We are now so afraid of the dark that we can barely sleep alone in our beds. It is as if this recreation of ours -recreation maybe not being exactly the right word for it- is calling for us. We are somehow obsessed by this. We both also feel very restless during the day and unable to think about anything but this. What should we do Jóna Rúna? We’re scared to death and afraid we have started something that we won´t be able to rid ourselves off. Are there such things as evil spirits? Who are those who come forward when playing the Ouija board? Do you think that ghosts are real? Could we go insane by all of this? Dear Jóna Rúna, would you please give us an answer as quickly as possible.” Two Teens in Trouble. “Dear Fellows, It was truly a pleasure to read your letter although I have to admit that at times I got the chills reading your descriptions of the morbidness that you have experienced in connection with the Ouija board. To tell you the truth I didn´t find it appropriate to publish the part of the letter where you describe just how vulgar this entity has been; I had to consider my other readers that perhaps are sensitive. Hopefully you respect my decision and understand that it wouldn´t be good for just everybody to hear the gruesome facts of the matter, although people can likely imagine it to some extent. Certainly I have had psychic abilities since birth and I am, as you called me, a clairvoyant, having trained my talent quietly for over thirty years. Because of my gift and years of experience in these matters I will hopefully be able to enlighten you comrades of some things that might be useful to you in your current situation. As before, I will use my insight in my answer to you. Insight, which originates from my natural psychic abilities and, of course, all of the experience and wisdom I have. The Emperor’s New Clothes It can certainly be said that during the last few years there has been a spiritual awakening with the (Icelandic) nation and some people have actually thrived on being able to brag about their connections to the mysteries of the paranormal, although that is always difficult to verify. Exactly how many cases of the “emperor’s new clothes” are going on is hard to determine although it is quite clear that the emperor has an extensive wardrobe of invisible clothes that get their fair share of admiration. It is rather likely that together with the emperor’s clothes is an interest that has managed to drive the best of people to some sort of spiritual gluttony, which can hardly be considered particularly noble. The Ethics and Morals of Christ Regardless of gluttony and the clothes of the emperor there are, thankfully, many good spiritual enterprises going on. It is for example, very satisfying to know that people are increasing in a sincere and honest way their spiritual efforts in their everyday lives, even strenghtening their own sense of self worth, respect and the good in the human soul. It´s also very positive when people turn their minds to Jesus Christ and his theories in search for the divine in themselves and others. For there is a God watching over us and his will must have an influence on our whole lives and spiritual efforts. Anything else in unacceptable for those who wish to lead a peaceful and amicable Christian life. The ethics that are open to us in the theories of the Saviour should be enough of a spiritual guidance to make us want to live an honest and giving life. Furthermore should all spiritual efforts strengthen our believe in brotherhood and equality for all. Sorcery and Immature Beings Teenagers are in no way different from adults in the fact that they are highly curious and interested in all sorts of mysteries and other things that fall under the category of the paranormal. Unfortunately, it has been common amongst young people to play with what is called a Ouija board. Considering the things that I have heard about such tampering, I believe that it is save to say that nobody should allow themselves to be lured into such sorcery. There are plenty of examples where people have had to seek the professional help of psychiatrist after playing with the Ouija board, because the mental health of those individuals was not made to endure such things. We must realize that the consequences of playing with the Ouija board can sometimes be catastrophic and almost unfixable. Mysticists have always said that the most immature beings from the other side, flock to the Ouija board when it is being used and tampered with. In all specialized fields, a certain knowledge is required and that also applies to playing with the Ouija board, which is so strange to most people. It has sometimes been called “table dancing” and does of course fall in the category of the paranormal. Priests are Spiritual Teachers Since you boys are in deep trouble because of spiritual tampering, it is of great value for you to know that in our community there are Christian views and we have many good mentors in our priests and our National Church has all our best interests at heart. You should seek the guidance of a priest immediately and stop using the Ouija board at once because of the serious nature of the consequences of your actions. This tampering should never have occurred because it is easier said then done to rid one self of the consequences and influences, something that you and your schoolmates probably never expected or could have imagined. It´s much more sensible for you kids to turn to the Church instead of letting this miserable problem continue to plague you and possibly harm you in the later run. Please stop while you still can and don´t do any more of these naive but dangerous experiments in trying to reach those who have left this life. Ouija Board and Electricity As I have been saying, a Ouija board is one of the most risky things one can participate in spiritually. When a Ouija board is used, one opens a way and release for all sorts of forces that have potentials which one has no way of bracing oneself against. You comrades ask if it is dangerous to use the Ouija board and my answer is simple and direct: yes; it is highly dangerous. But why, you may perhaps ask. Because you are tampering with paranormal forces that can be very double-edged and highly dangerous in the hands of amateurs. The reasons are quite simple. In comparison, if you were to tamper with electricity, given that your knowledge on the matter is about the same you have on the paranormal; it is quite possible that you might seriously hurt yourselves and other innocent people as well. Electricity can be used to light up our houses and even keep them warm. It is still a fact that it can also be used in a very negative manner. People are for example sometimes executed with electricity. We don’t really know what electricity is but the electrical professionals know it’s potentials and usefulness and they realize that if you know what you’re doing, there should be no need for accidents or damage. It goes without saying that you can’t be any less careful in dealing with the paranormal forces than with the more material ones. It is often extremely difficult to see beforehand what the consequences of meddling with the paranormal will be. Immature Spirits Regardless of all doubt, we do survive our physical death and the act of dying doesn’t change a personality. If we assume that not all people die contentedly or particularly pleased with their fate, then we must realize that there are many different types of spiritual beings or souls. Some are even quite bitter and negative. Because of the fact that we leave our bodies when our souls are at different mental maturity, it is very important not open a way to oneself for just anybody to enter. Even though we are given a spiritual “body” when we die, that does not necessarily mean that we become good just by dying. If we are not kind before we die we are not going to get automatically kind after death unless we decide to change ourselves. As I said, we are given a spiritual “body” when we die that only clairvoyants can see. But that just isn’t enough if your soul is negative and distorted as is clearly the case with this vulgar man that is frightening you and your friends when you use the Ouija board. A soul with such a hideous presence and the use of language even the most cold-blooded criminals would hardly use. The Choice is Ours As I said before, it is the opinion of mysticists, that the Ouija board often attracts very immature and negative beings. It is said that some souls are very bound to the earthly and that is in a certain way true. My point is, that when a very negative person does not want to die but does, that person is likely to seek ways to communicate with living people on this side of the grave, and not always in the most pleasant purpose. A person that is negative in nature must always be considered risky, whether on this side or the other side. The location is irrelevant but the nature and disposition are not. By simply dying a person won’t change unless that person wants to. The same laws apply on both sides. We have a free will and we can choose are own spiritual condition although many have trouble understanding this. Negative Forces It is the very nature of a negative force to make a life for itself in a situation that is favourable to the negative being. Therefore it is not a surprise that when you render yourselves open for paranormal forces you have no understanding of, something bad can happen. Something just like what has already happened. A bad spirit takes over and interrupts something that could possibly have become a positive experience, by inviting himself to visit your Ouija board. If you are positive yourselves, such a spirit can never possess you and will likely avoid communicating with you. That does not mean that the individual can not cause any problems before he goes away. “Table dancing” is and will always be a double-edged sword in the hands of amateurs. So-called hauntings often occur as a side effect of such experiments and people commonly experience accumulated negative disturbances when playing with unknown forces. Sanity at Risk You mention that it is as if you are obsessed by this but at the same time being truly frightened. You also complain about being restless and experiencing formerly unknown feelings and mood swings. This is not a good sign and only demonstrates the importance of your stopping this “table dancing” immediately. You also ask if your participation in this indecency can result in madness. It´s obvious that if you don’t stop this, many unfortunate things can take place and everything points to the fact that you don’t have the mental strength to take such bold spiritual risks. Given the information you gave me I’d say that you’re in over your heads. As to whether you can loose your sanity in all this I can’t say for you two particularly. But such things have unfortunately destroyed people’s sanity in the past but if you stop immediately you will hopefully be out of such danger. Certainly you are risking your sanity when you meddle with forces that have already proven to be negative and according to you already had an impact on your feelings. All mental, psychological and emotional harassment that causes constant and uncomfortable symptoms of fear and nervousness can indeed distort our sanity. Possession Can Happen It is of the utmost importance that you not take part in an enterprise such as this again. You should pray for divine protection and ask Jesus Christ to embrace you with his presence and love. You should also pray for those hapless entities and ask God to guide them from their wrongness if possible. Also pray that they for their well being and that they be able to use those good feelings to alter their thoughts and horrible behaviour to good. Nothing in this letter suggests that you are being possessed but certainly such things can happen. As soon as we become afraid and restless, our mental walls of protection fall apart and the possibilities for trouble increase. Even though such situations are rare, possession does take place every now and again, but I repeat that it is not common. To tell you the truth, I think that one possession is one too many because the phenomenon is truly disturbing and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone to witness such a thing with a loved-one. The Importance of Realism In all things that concern the experiences of our lives that we all share, it is wise to make a habit of dealing with them in a realistic and prudent manner. You can think of it like this: we don’t walk around naked in front of just anybody and we don’t leave our apartments wide open. If we would, it’s all too likely that something unwanted might decide to come to visit to our great annoyance. By meddling with the paranormal as if nothing were more natural, we just might bring on ourselves a situation that might not be beneficial to us. In regard to all this information one would have to be an idiot to indulge in the use of a Ouija board. Hopefully you friends can ponder my answer for a bit and possibly realize that it’s not always worth it to dive into the paranormal. Especially when we don’t know much about what we’re doing. Young people have to choose and reject in these matters as in others and unfortunately there is a lot of hoaxing going on, although it can be hard to spot. Then there are of course many wonderful spiritual things happening. Or as the fully grown teenage boy once said in a group of friends: ”Fellows, I still have to sleep with my teddy bear with me because I’ve been so horrible afraid of the dark since I lost my faith and started to concentrate on the occult. Now, I’ve stopped all that and am thinking more about school and my hobbies, which are kind of spooky. Despite that I’ve started going to church on Sundays and it’s great and I’m never afraid there.
